Freedom Safety Guidelines

Your safety is at the heart of everything we do. These Guidelines set out how riders, drivers, and couriers can stay safe on every Freedom trip, before you set off, on the road, and after you arrive. Following them keeps the whole community protected.

01

Our safety commitment

Freedom is built for safe, affordable motorcycle rides and deliveries across Ghana. Every driver on the platform completes identity and document verification (KYC) before they can go online, and our app includes real-time trip tracking, live trip sharing, ratings, and an in-app SOS button. Safety is a shared responsibility, these Guidelines explain the part you play.

The golden rule on two wheels: always wear a helmet. Drivers carry a helmet for you on every trip, put it on and fasten the strap before you move.

02

Before your trip

Take a few seconds to confirm you are getting on the right bike:

  • Check the match: the driver’s name, photo, and motorcycle plate in the app should match the rider who arrives.
  • Wear the helmet the driver provides, and fasten the strap securely.
  • Share your trip: use in-app trip sharing so a friend or family member can follow your route and ETA in real time.
  • Wait in a safe, well-lit place, and only get on once you have confirmed the driver and destination.
  • Never share your one-time verification code with anyone, not even someone claiming to be from Freedom.
03

During your trip

  • Keep your helmet on for the entire ride, hold on securely, and keep your feet on the footrests.
  • Follow the route in the app. If the driver takes an unexpected detour, ask them about it or ask to stop somewhere safe.
  • Speak up early if you feel unsafe, ask the driver to slow down or pull over in a safe spot.
  • Use the in-app SOS button if you are ever in danger; it can alert your emergency contacts and share your live location.
  • Avoid distractions for the driver, and never ask a driver to break traffic laws or speed.
04

After your trip

  • Rate your driver honestly, ratings keep the community accountable and help us act on problems.
  • Report any safety concern through the app or by contacting support; serious reports are investigated.
  • Lost something? Use the app to contact your driver, or reach out to support for help recovering it.
05

Helmet & road safety

Motorcycles are efficient, but they demand extra care. For every trip:

  • Always wear a properly fastened helmet, it is the single most important thing you can do to stay safe.
  • Only one passenger per motorcycle. Never overload the bike with people or cargo.
  • Wear closed shoes where possible and keep loose clothing, bags, and straps clear of the wheels and chain.
  • Dismount on the safe side, away from traffic, and let the driver stabilise the bike first.
06

For drivers & couriers

As a Freedom driver or courier, you keep everyone safe when you:

  • Ride only with a valid licence, insurance, and a roadworthy, well-maintained motorcycle.
  • Carry and wear your own helmet, and always provide a helmet for your passenger.
  • Obey all traffic laws and speed limits, and never ride while tired, unwell, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Do not use your phone in your hand while riding, set navigation before you move.
  • Confirm the rider and destination before starting, and decline or end any trip that is unsafe or unlawful.
  • Handle packages responsibly and refuse any prohibited or dangerous items.
07

Emergencies & SOS

If you are ever in immediate danger, your safety comes first, contact the emergency services right away.

In an emergency

Use the in-app SOS button to alert your emergency contacts and share your live location, then call the emergency services.

Ghana emergency numbers: Police 191 · Ambulance 193 · Fire 192 · National Emergency 112.

After you are safe, report the incident to us so we can investigate and take action.

08

Prohibited behaviour & zero tolerance

To protect everyone, the following are never allowed on Freedom and may lead to immediate removal from the platform and referral to the authorities:

  • Violence, threats, harassment, or intimidation of any kind.
  • Weapons, or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs while riding.
  • Discrimination or abuse based on gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, or any other characteristic.
  • Unwanted physical contact, sexual misconduct, or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Carrying or requesting delivery of illegal or dangerous items.
09

Reporting a safety concern

If something did not feel right, tell us. You can report a driver, rider, or incident through the app after a trip, or email us at support@freedomghana.com. We take every report seriously, keep them confidential where possible, and act on findings, including warnings, suspension, or permanent removal from the platform.

10

Accidents & insurance

If you are involved in an accident, prioritise safety and medical help first, then report it to us. Drivers are required to carry valid insurance for their motorcycle.

These Guidelines are part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
