Terms of Service

These Terms of Service are the agreement between you and Freedom Ghana for using our rider app, driver app, and website. Please read them carefully , they explain how the platform works, your responsibilities, payments, and the limits of our liability.

Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Freedom Ghana rider app, driver app, websites, and related services (together, the “Services”), operated by Freedom Ghana(“Freedom”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By downloading, accessing, or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy and Safety Guidelines. If you do not agree, you must not use the Services.

Who can use Freedom

To use the Services, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract.
  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information when registering.
  • Use the Services only for lawful purposes and in line with these Terms.

Drivers and couriers must additionally meet all legal requirements to operate a motorcycle in Ghana, including a valid licence, roadworthy vehicle, insurance, and successful completion of our verification (KYC) process.

The Freedom platform

Freedom is a technology platform that connects riders and senders with independent third-party drivers and couriers who provide transport and delivery services. Freedom itself does not provide transportation or delivery services and is not a carrier.

Drivers and couriers are independent contractors, not employees or agents of Freedom. We do not direct or control how they perform, beyond what these Terms and our safety policies require.

Your account

You sign in using your phone number and a one-time verification code. You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account. You agree to:

  • Keep your login, device, and verification codes secure and confidential.
  • Not share, sell, or transfer your account to anyone else.
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use or security breach.

Rides & deliveries

When you request a ride or delivery, Freedom matches you with an available driver or courier nearby. Fare estimates, arrival times, and routes shown in the app are estimates and may change based on traffic, demand, distance, and other conditions.

  • You must provide an accurate pickup point, destination, and (for deliveries) recipient details.
  • You are responsible for the items you send, including ensuring they are legal, properly packaged, and accurately described.
  • A driver or courier may decline or end a trip for safety, legal, or policy reasons.

Prohibited & restricted items

You may not send, carry, or request delivery of items that are illegal or unsafe, including but not limited to:

  • Illegal drugs, weapons, ammunition, or explosives.
  • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials.
  • Stolen goods, counterfeit items, or anything prohibited by law.
  • Live animals, human remains, or perishable items that are unsafe to transport.
  • Cash, or items whose value or fragility exceeds what a motorcycle courier can reasonably carry.

Violating this section may result in trip cancellation, account suspension, and referral to the authorities.

Fares, payments & wallet

Fares are calculated using factors such as base fare, distance, time, service type, and any applicable surge or promotions, plus a booking fee where shown. You agree to pay the fare and any applicable charges for each trip.

  • You can pay by cash, mobile money, card, or your in-app wallet, where available.
  • Card and mobile-money payments are processed by our payment partner (Paystack). Freedom does not store your full card number.
  • Freedom retains a service commission from each trip; the driver receives the remainder as earnings.
  • Prices and fees may change over time; the fare shown at booking or on completion applies to that trip.

Cancellations, no-shows & refunds

You can cancel a trip in the app. A cancellation fee may apply if you cancel after a driver has been assigned or has travelled to your pickup, or if you are a no-show. Refunds, where due, are issued to your original payment method or wallet, subject to review.

User conduct & safety

You agree to use the Services respectfully and lawfully. You must not:

  • Harass, threaten, discriminate against, or harm any driver, rider, courier, or third party.
  • Use the Services for any unlawful, fraudulent, or fraudulent-payment purpose.
  • Damage, misuse, or interfere with a vehicle, the app, or our systems.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or disrupt the Services.

Everyone must follow our Safety Guidelines, including helmet use. We operate a zero-tolerance policy for violence, weapons, and intoxication.

Ratings, reviews & promotions

After a trip, riders and drivers may rate each other. Ratings help keep the community safe and accountable; consistently low ratings or policy violations may lead to removal from the platform.

Promotions, referral rewards, and discounts are offered at our discretion, may have additional terms, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time. Abuse of promotions may result in reversal of credits and account action.

Additional terms for drivers & couriers

If you use Freedom to earn as a driver or courier, you also agree that:

  • You are an independent contractor responsible for your own vehicle, licensing, insurance, and taxes.
  • You will keep your verification documents accurate and up to date, and maintain a roadworthy, insured motorcycle.
  • You will carry a helmet for yourself and provide one for your passenger, and follow all traffic and safety laws.
  • You will provide payout details so we can remit your earnings, less Freedom's commission and any amounts you owe.
  • You will not accept trips while unfit to ride, and you will decline or end any trip that is unsafe or unlawful.

Intellectual property

The Services, including the Freedom name, logo, software, and content, are owned by Freedom Ghana or its licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

Disclaimers

The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Freedom disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Because drivers and couriers are independent third parties, Freedom does not guarantee the availability, quality, timing, or safety of any particular trip, and is not responsible for the acts or omissions of any rider, driver, or courier.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Freedom and its officers, employees, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Services. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the trip giving rise to the claim.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Freedom harmless from any claims, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Services, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time if you breach these Terms, create risk or legal exposure, or engage in fraud or unsafe behaviour. You may stop using the Services and delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy). Sections that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply.

Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana. You agree that any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ghana. Before starting formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us so we can try to resolve the matter directly.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
